Biography

Avi S. Rocklin is the owner and founder of Rocklin Law and Mediation.  She has over 20-years legal experience and has provided a broad range of legal services to clients.

Ms. Rocklin commenced her legal career with judicial clerkships.  She clerked for the Honorable Robert S. Hyatt, Chief Judge of the Denver District Court.  During that clerkship, Ms. Rocklin worked on civil law cases and was extensively involved in researching and interpreting substantive law and drafting legal opinions.  Ms. Rocklin then clerked for the Honorable Donald E. Cordova, a presiding judge of the United States Bankruptcy Court.  During that time period, in addition to working on bankruptcy matters, she co-authored an article in the Colorado Lawyer entitled “Taking a Default Judgment to the Bankruptcy Court,” 27 Colo.Law. 67 (1998).

Subsequent to her clerkships, Ms. Rocklin practiced law at well-respected law firms in Denver, Colorado.  She participated in complex commercial matters in trial and appellate courts and before arbitrators.  She negotiated and drafted sophisticated commercial contracts, and has successfully resolved numerous contract-related disputes.  Ms. Rocklin has prepared numerous substantive motions, including appellate briefs, for matters in both state and federal courts.  She has worked on litigation teams representing large plaintiff groups in both state and national class actions.

In 2007, Ms. Rocklin relocated to Fort Collins, and successfully brought her skills and experience to clients in Northern Colorado.  In addition to continuing her business and commercial practice, Ms. Rocklin has broadened the scope of her legal practice to provide assistance to individuals.  She has helped many families develop estate plans to accomplish long-term financial objectives, protect children, and create contingency plans in case of disability by drafting wills, trusts, and powers of attorney.  Ms. Rocklin has worked with domestic relations clients to obtain divorces, post-decree modifications, and enforce child support orders.  She has drafted residential buy-sell agreements and reviewed and drafted residential and commercial lease agreements.

Importantly, while Ms. Rocklin is a strong advocate for her client’s position, she is also a firm believer in alternative dispute resolution.  She has undergone extensive mediation training and has successfully mediated many cases.  Even if her clients are in the midst of litigation and not actively participating in mediation, Ms. Rocklin works diligently to find creative and mutually-agreeable solutions to disputes where appropriate.  She has achieved good settlements for her clients in a timely manner, often saving significant litigation costs.
